Cookie policy
GradMe’s cookies, what they are for, how long they last and how to change your choice.
What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small file a website stores in your browser to remember something from one page to the next, for example that you are signed in.
Necessary cookies
These cookies make the site work. The law does not require your consent for them:
- gm_session (GradMe): keeps you signed in to your account. It holds a random sign-in token, with no information about you, and is only stored when you sign in or create an account. Duration: 30 days, or until you sign out;
- gm_oauth (GradMe): stored only when you choose “Continue with Google”, to check that the sign-in really comes back from Google. Duration: 10 minutes at most; it is erased as soon as you are back on GradMe;
- gradme_consent (GradMe): remembers your choice in the cookie banner (accepted or refused), so you are not asked again on every visit. Duration: 6 months.
gm_session and gm_oauth are unreadable by the page’s scripts (http-only) and never sent to another site.
Audience measurement cookies
If you click “Accept” in the banner, GradMe uses Google Analytics 4 to count visits and learn which pages are useful. Two cookies are then stored:
- _ga (Google Analytics): tells one visitor from another, without your name or e-mail address. Duration: 13 months;
- _ga_<site ID> (Google Analytics): keeps the state of your visit for the statistics. Duration: 13 months.
Until you accept, nothing is loaded from Google and none of these cookies is stored. If you refuse, the whole site stays available.
Google Ireland Limited processes this data on our behalf, as a processor. Advertising storage is always refused: your visits are not used for advertising and your IP address is not used to show you ads.
Changing your choice
You can change your mind at any time with the “Manage cookies” button at the bottom of every page: the banner opens again. If you withdraw your consent, the page reloads and Google Analytics is no longer loaded.
The _ga cookies already stored stay in your browser until they expire, but the site no longer reads them. You can clear them from your browser settings.
Deleting cookies
The “Sign out” button deletes the gm_session cookie. You can also clear cookies from your browser settings: you will be signed out and the cookie banner will show again.
What GradMe does not use
GradMe uses no advertising or social network cookie. If we ever add another tool that stores cookies, this page will be updated and your consent will be asked before anything is stored when the law requires it.
